No Indonesian Songs on iTunes

Posted on August 29th, 2009 by by Hardjono

I would think that would be a career achievement. Can’t they strike a deal with Apple?

With a population of nearing 250M people (at least), you’d think there was a sizeable domestic market for local pop and rock music on iTunes. What are they waiting for?

The World is Blurry: Nokia menjadi OEM (?)

Posted on August 24th, 2009 by by Hardjono

  • 10-inch glass screen (HD)
  • SD card reader
  • Bluetooth, GPS, 3G, HSDPA (3.5G), Wi-Fi,
  • HDMI port  (HD video)

So its very clear that netbooks are changing & influencing the handheld market. Now Nokia is launching its on netbook running Intel’s Atom. Welcome to the club. Nokia’s penetration in the US mobile phone market is very slim, with Apple and Blackberry dominating.  Yes Nokia own a huge percentage of the Asian and EMEA markets. However, in this emerging netbook market Nokia will have to compete with other brand-name OEMs such as Dell, HP and Asus, all of whom have desires to own the netbook market and all of whom will provide 3G chipsets within their netbooks. It seems the question is whether the 3G carriers (MNOs) outside the US will allow VOIP apps on netbooks to carry voice-traffic. (In the US the recent Apple/ATT decision to disallow voice apps from the iPhone will have interesting consequences.) For Nokia entering the netbook market will provide numerous challenges. For one, developing SoC systems is different from being an OEM. Unless Nokia does a complete white-label, it will now have to deal with EOM-related issues (e.g. full OS, firmwares, device drivers, etc. etc.)

Yes, the world is not only flat, its also blurry…

Desas-desus Apple Tablet lagi

Posted on August 19th, 2009 by by Hardjono

For $700, would you choose an Apple Tablet or 2 EEEpc netbooks?

Kompas Online Tambah Payah

Posted on July 10th, 2009 by by Hardjono

Maybe its just me, but the new Kompas ePaper is really not working. Not only that, the plain www.kompas.com site now shows banner ads that won’t go away. Doesn’t anyone in Kompas know how to do proper graphic design? I’ve seen many Indonesian blogs that are very well designed & cool really, so why can’t Kompas hire one or two of these promising designers.

Really, in this age when major newspapers around the world are seeing a huge decline in paper distribution (and having to think seriously about digital distribution) Koran Kompas should fix-up its epaper distribution method.
