Asus Eee PC 900: I want one of those

Minggu ini keluar beberapa review mengenai Asus Eee PC model 900, yaitu model selanjutnya sesudah model 701 sub-notebook yang dianggap sukses sekali. Bagi laptop kategori sub-notebook harganya harus murah agar terjangkau oleh kaum muda. Harga model 701 di AS sekitar $300 s/d $370.

Salah satu topik dari review2 ini adalah mengenai support untuk Windows XP. Asus akan mengeluarkan model 900 dengan Windows XP (Home Edition). Pihak reviewer yang dari CNET-UK mengakui bahwa Eee PC 701 jenis Linux mengalami banyak mengalami masalah:

By using Windows XP, users can sidestep many of the software and hardware compatibility issues that plague the Linux version. We’ve encountered numerous devices that don’t work with a Linux Eee because of driver issues, including some USB disc drives, printers and TV tuners. You simply don’t get these problems with a Windows-equipped Eee PC 900.

Spec ringkasnya begini:

  • CPU: 900MHz Celeron M
  • Memory: 1GB of DDR 400 memory
  • Screen: 8.9-inch panel at 1,024×600 pixels
  • Hard drive: 12GB (Windows XP) or 20GB (Linux)
  • USB Ports: 3
  • Other storage: SD Memory card slot
  • Note: No built-in WiFi.
  • WebCam: 1.3 Megapixel.

 

Asus rencananya akan memberi harga yang sama bagi model XP dan model Linux. Tapi karena harga lisensi Windows XP bisa mencapai $70 s/d $90, maka kapasitas hard drive untuk jenis Windows XP akan kecil (12 Gb). Selain itu, model 900 saat ini tidak memiliki built-in WiFi (802.11). Harus menunggu versi 900 Surf.

OK, so I definitely want one of these Eee PC 900.  Anyone know what a “manbag” is? Must be a UK thing :)

It uses the same 226×38x170mm, 1kg chassis, which is exceptionally convenient for throwing into a purse or manbag and taking on your travels.

@Rezzie, mungkin yach WiFi nya ada. Tapi artikel enggak bilang apa 802.11a, b atau g.

@Gagahput3ra, mugkin akhir tahun ada versi Windows dgn 20Gb. Tapi masih harus bayar Windows XP.

Rasanya sih Asus Eee pasti support Wi-Fi. Kalau laptop murah kecil lainnya seperti HP 2133 atau MSI Wind (yg ini masih nunggu Intel Atom keluar)

Kalau utk notebook kedua sih masih ok pak pakai asus eee, tp utk kerjaan serius hari2 saya tetep aja masih mupeng ama thinkpad t61 :)
